We all know that high blood pressure and high cholesterol put you at risk. Now a new study highlights another strong factor for heart disease middle-aged obesity, even if they have low blood pressure, low cholesterol, and are seemingly healthy.

"They were at much higher risk of being hospitalized for heart disease or diabetes or even dying from it in older age," says Lijing Yan Ph.D, M.P.H. at Northwestern University ,Peking University

"Every pound that you put on really does rob you later on in life of health, as well as chances are you're going to be hospitalized more and perhaps even dying sooner," says Robert Kushner M.D. and an obesity specialist.

The study is in Jama, the Journal of the American Medical Association, after studying the health history of more than 17 thousand people over a thirty year period.
