Health officials worldwide, continue to plan for an outbreak of the bird flu and the same can be said here at home.
In November, the Health Department appointed a group of doctors and health experts to determine what Lubbock needs to do to prepare. The group is forming a plan of action, but in the meantime, the Board of Health says everyone should simply practice good hygiene. Dr. John Selby, M.D. says, "In other words, hand washing, avoiding close contact, and if a pandemic occurs isolation will be important."
So far, the bird flu has not been a deadly threat to humans in North America.
