After months of dispute a deal has been made concerning oil drilling in an East Lubbock neighborhood. Last year, the North and East Lubbock Development Corporation purchased 29 acres of land on MLK BLVD with the intent of building a 66 home neighborhood.
The land was on top of an oil field, and the corporation did not buy the mineral rights. Texland Petroleum wanted to install new pump jacks on the property, halting the neighborhood's construction.
But the two have come to an agreement. The development corporation will redesign its neighborhood around the one existing pump jack and two proposed pump jacks reducing the project to 56 homes. In return, Texland agreed it will not seek to install any more pump jacks on the property.
