Americans across the country are celebrating this weekend to honor the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King. Meanwhile, communities will take time to honor some of their own as well.
Friday night, four people were honored with a Black Pearl Award. They included: Judge Shepard - who was one of Lubbock County's first black judges, Former police officer and Lubbock councilman - TJ Paterson, Joan Ervin - who was Lubbock's first black elected official and Ronald Givins - who was the first black republican elected to the House of Representatives.
