There are many signs of a drought here on the South Plains, but one of the most visible is fire.
Fire fighters are still monitoring hot spots after a grass fire broke near New Deal. The fire started just after 3:30, Thursday afternoon, just West of New Deal. Investigators believe the fire started when someone threw something out of at car, probably a cigarette.
Fire fighters from New Deal, Abernathy and Shallowater responded to the fire. It scorched 30 acres.
