Food for Thought Report 1.19

Chef Matt Britton's keeps his downtown restaurant, La Bowski's, a very clean place. He earns another place on this weeks Top Performer list and for the fourth time since La Bowski's opened in December 2004. "It's a goal I strive for almost every quarter. I think the reflection of a restaurant is a reflection of the food, you know, cleanliness of the restaurant is a reflection of the food."

Here is a complete list of the restaurants and their violations for the week ending on 1/19/06.

Chef Matt says the art also sets his restaurant apart. He features artwork from several local artists, and the displays are always changing.

Daylight Donuts located at 410 Frankford is also a top performer receiving zero critical violations.

Dimba's Chicken and Seafood at 421 Frankford also gets a perfect score and a spot on the top performer list.

The Wood Ampride Deli located at 7822 82nd Street received six critical violations making them a low performer. Violations including:

  • The health department found hot sandwiches containing ham being stored at 121 degrees, and hot chicken stored at 92 degrees. Warm food must be stored at 140 degrees.
  • They found soiled cloths on food contact surfaces, hot dogs, Canadian bacon and sliced ham were stored in the reach in cooler without date marks.
  • Rodent droppings were found in a cabinet.
  • The health department also found various surfaces, ovens and coolers, unacceptably soiled.

Management tells NewsChannel 11 everything has been corrected. As for the rodent droppings they say "They were found in an area that's not used."

Church's Fried Chicken at 1702 50th is our other low performer with five violations.

  • The health department found employees weren't washing their hands frequently enough between duties.
  • A hand washing sink was also found being used for purposes other than hand washing.
  • Raw chicken was stored above cole slaw, a cross contamination hazard because juice from raw meat can drip to the cole slaw.
  • Food contact surfaces were also found soiled.

NewsChannel 11 was unable to reach them for comment.
