An FDA advisory committee is considering whether to recommend making a weight loss drug available without a prescription.
The generic medication is called "Orlistat." Drug maker Glaxo-Smith-Kline told the committee Monday that the drug works by preventing the body from absorbing some fat and they believe it is effective and safe enough to be taken without a doctor's approval.
But don't get too excited, even the drug maker says Orlistat only works with diet and lifestyle changes.
