An Armed Robbery Turns Into A High Speed Chase

A man wearing a panty hose mask came into the EZ Loan store on 50th Street and Avenue Q and than held the clerk at gun point. The man than took an undisclosed amount of money and the keys to the clerks car. After he left the scene police were able to get a description of the vehicle. The vehicle was then spotted going North on I-27 by an off duty officer. An on duty officer was able to catch up with the suspect and attempted to pull the man over, that is when the suspect fled.

The suspect continued to go North on I-27, reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Thirty miles North of Lubbock, DPS Officers laid out spike strips and disabled his front right tire. The suspect kept driving for another ten miles and then exited the highway. Between Hale Center and Plainview the man tried to jump over the rail road tracks. That's when the stolen Honda Element caught fire. The suspect then got out of the vehicle and surrendered to police.
