The Texas Tech Board of Regents has accepted the immediate resignation of Chancellor David Smith. Smith resigned last week, after four years at the position. He will receive a severance package valued at just more than a million dollars and he will be allowed to remain in the chancellor's official residence until the end of July. Smith was also offered a tenured faculty position at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.
The regents also formed two committees during the meeting. One committee will help name an interim chancellor and the other will find a full time replacement. The regents hope to a have a new chancellor in place by the fall semester.
