FDA Approves Rotavirus Vaccine

A few drops in the mouth could save thousands of babies.

Friday, the FDA approved a vaccine to prevent Rotavirus, a viral infection that causes diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and dehydration in infants. And while it is rarely fatal in the U.S., it is the reason for thousands of infant deaths in other countries.

The vaccine, called Rotateq, will be made by Merck.
