Small Business Health Insurance Plan Unveiled

The nation is in a health care crisis and Lubbock is not immune to it. Right now, 23% of people living in Lubbock County are uninsured. That's why the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce made a major announcement.

The big news is good news for small business owners. The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce is partnering with First Care, Covenant and UMC to offer health coverage to local small and medium sized businesses. This means employers can now offer better health care plans to their employees at a more affordable price. Over 90% of area physicians will participate in the plan. Because it's locally based, all the money with First Care will stay in the Lubbock economy.

Chamber Chairman Steve Verett says, "As an employee benefit at this day and time folks understand the importance of health care coverage. We hope by pulling together that can be an option."

To be eligible, employers must be a member of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce. Details of the plan are still being worked out but, the insurance should be available for purchase later this spring.
