The big headline today that is making millions of women angry is that a calcium supplement every day may not make much difference in protecting bones from becoming brittle as we age.

"It really shows that calcium and vitamin D do have an effect on bone but they are not huge," said Thomas Price, MD, of Duke University.

That' the bad news, but what you need to read is the editorial that follows the report in the New England Journal of Medicine which explains this study helps send an important message...that one strategy alone, like taking a calcium pill every day, is not enough to prevent osteoporosis for everyone.
