Merck Wins Vioxx Case

After just a few hours of deliberation, jurors in Florida found that there was no proof Vioxx caused 53-year-old Richard Irvin's heart attack in 2001.

Lawyers for the company had argued that it wasn't Vioxx, but Irvin's age, gender and diet combined that put him at cardiac risk.

This means that so far, Merck has won two of the Vioxx cases against it, but there are still nearly 9,000 pending.
