For the second time in a week, authorities made a major drug bust in Lubbock and again near a school. Nine people were arrested on various warrants during a drug bust at 40th and Orlando just after 1:00 p.m. Friday. The Drug Enforcement Administration executed the search warrant just five blocks away from Maedgen Elementary school.
With the assistance of the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office and the Lubbock Police Department, the DEA confiscated a substantial amount of marijuana and one firearm. Neighbors in the area say they suspected drug activity was taking place because the house was always so busy. Reed Schafer says, "It's been a matter of time. I've seen a bunch of traffic around here day and night. Just people coming and going staying five or ten minutes and then leaving. It was just a matter of time before they got popped."
Jim Larner says, "It didn't matter if the sun was out or if it was dark. During the day I would go to pickup my daughter and I couldn't come through this street. I would have to go around the park cause there was so many cars blocking the street."
The neighbors also say they are glad to see all the drug busts in Lubbock because with less drugs comes less violence.
