On Tuesday voters are to choose which republican and democratic candidates will win their parties nomination for the November election. NewsChannel 11's Kealey McIntire has been at the polls throughout the day continues NewsChannel 11's coverage of Decision 2006 March Primary.
The polls were very busy on Tuesday. The Lubbock County Elections Office expected 12,000 voters to hit the polls on election day, another 12,000 already voted early. Many voters say the race for District 83 brought them to the polls, it pits incumbent Delwin Jones against Van Wilson and Frank Morrison. Voters say it's been one of the dirtier campaigns.
It's election day and the Whiteside Elementary polling location looks like a mini-campaign zone.
Lubbock County voter Joyce Jackson said, "I'm most interested in the District 83 race."
Jackson and many other voters say the state representative race between Jones, Morrison and Wilson brought them to the polls. Jackson says it's one of the more negative campaigns she's seen. Jackson says Wilson came out attacking Jones and never stated what he stands for.
"I don't think he ever did tell us what he intended to do or how he intended to do it and that's not the way to run a campaign," commented Jackson. "The opponent came out slinging mud right off and that really was a turnoff."
Wilson has said his campaign focuses on Jones' voting record because he says Jones has been misrepresenting District 83.
Wilson doesn't call it a negative campaign, however voter Eric Miller disagrees. "Some of the voting records I knew, I thought they were kind of misleading and kind of picking pieces of voting records and not the whole package," said Miller.
Miller doesn't call it a "mud slinging" campaign but says it hasn't been a positive one. "I would just kind of call it cherry picking to make your candidate look better," he commented.
