President Bush Calls to Congratulate Matt Powell

In the race for Lubbock District Attorney, incumbent Matt Powell defeated his opponent, Tommy Turner with 73% of the vote. On Wednesday morning, Powell received a congratulatory phone call from the President of The United States.

Powell says, "What an honor for me that this man who has so much going on in his life took time out of his schedule to give me a call. That was a neat deal for me."

President George Bush made the call from Air Force One. Powell's father Don Powell is coordinating the federal recovery effort for victims of Hurricane Katrina and apparently mentioned his son's victory while accompanying the President to New Orleans.
