Emergency Flare Suspected in New Mexico Fire

Investigators believe an emergency flare sparked a 100,000 acre grass fire in southeastern New Mexico, Sunday.

Lovington fire officials say the flare at Saunders Natural Gas Plant usually releases gas pressure as a safety measure. Sunday, fluid caught in the gas line was released and ignited a flare. The blaze burned down a post office and forced 200 people to evacuate.
