Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department Honored

The City of Lubbock is being honored for its parks.

The Parks and Recreation Department is receiving a statewide gold medal award. The award is presented annually to communities for excellence in park and recreation management. The honor recognizes all aspects of the department, including long-range planning, capital improvements, attention to the environment, diverse program offerings, citizen participation, parks maintenance and more.

A number of park improvement projects were mentioned in the award including: Fiesta Plaza, Brazos River Journey Interpretive Exhibit at the Science Spectrum, Legacy Play Village, Ambucs Hub City Playground, McAlister Park development, seven new neighborhood parks, sixteen new playgrounds, Lubbock Area Veterans War Memorial, Freedom Fountain, community center improvements, and A.D.A. improvements to Montelongo and Clapp swimming pools.
