Suspected Serial Purse Snatchers Arrested

Lubbock police may have the break they've been looking for in a serial purse snatching spree.

Tonight, two people are in custody for allegedly stealing a 75-year-old woman's purse from the South Loop Wal-Mart. The arrest came just minutes after a fourth robbery this afternoon. The spree started at the South Plains Mall parking lot on January 18th. Since then, there were three more purse robberies, two at the South Loop Wal-Mart and another at K-Mart.

In each case, the victims were elderly women, where the suspects drove up and drove off with the purses. Today, another purse was snatched from the Wal-Mart parking lot. But this time, witnesses got a license plate number.

Carol Dodson had her purse snatched while in the Wal-Mart parking lot March eighth.

"It's terrifying you can't sleep at night," stated Dodson.

But Friday, Dodson told NewsChannel 11 she will sleep better after learning Lubbock Police arrested two suspects that might have stolen her purse.

Lt. Roy Bassett says, "it was basically the same circumstances as 2-3 other robberies."

Around 1:00 Friday afternoon, a woman had her purse taken from two people in a white car. In this case, there was another woman who tried to grab the purse, giving witnesses enough time to get a license plate number.

Police pulled the suspects over on 34th and Avenue Q. They searched the car and found the victim's purse along with other bill folds. Police then took the suspects one by one to get identified by the victim who sat in a police car just feet away. The victim identified both suspects and tonight, Adaryl Chris Hastings and Mary Lou Allen are charged with robbery for this crime.

Police are still investigating to see if they are connected to the other three incidents.
