A Case of Internet Chatting Ends with Aggravated Sexual Assault

A Lubbock grandfather is credited with holding a suspected online predator at gunpoint until police could arrive. Twenty-two year-old Brandon Ray Lewis is charged with aggravated sexual assault. The victim's grandfather says he found Lewis having sex with his 13-year-old granddaughter in front of their Northwest Lubbock home around 2:30 Monday morning.

Police executed a search warrant Monday afternoon, police can't say specifically what they collected as evidence from Lewis' house, but they can confirm that they've found electronic evidence which will help with their ongoing investigation.

Here's what happened, a Lubbock man noticed a suspicious car parked in his driveway around 2:30 Monday morning. He then saw Lewis allegedly having sex with his 13-year-old granddaughter. The man called police and held Lewis at gunpoint until officers arrived.

Police tell us they'll turn over whatever evidence they can find to the District Attorney's office.

Lubbock Police Department Lt. Jerry Brewer said, "If there's something we can present, send over the FBI to do federal charges we'll do that, we've done it in the past. We're really aggressive about trying to stop this."

Lt. Brewer said the teen and Lewis met online and have been chatting for a couple of months. This was apparently their first face to face meeting.

A number of questions still remain, like where the two met online and if anyone lied about their age. We'll continue to ask those questions and as soon as they're answered, we'll bring you the latest.
