Another sign of the times that's not so flattering. With thirty percent of Americans, or roughly 60 million people, described as obese there is a need today for bigger bus seats, larger pant sizes and now the bariatric ambulance.
It looks the same from the outside but it's equipped with an extra-wide gurney and ramps that are capable of handling up to sixteen hundred pounds. This, in an effort to make transport safer for the paramedics as well as the patient. So far, bariatric ambulances are available in Portland, Spokane, Atlanta and Tampa Bay but the numbers are increasing as Americans pile on the pounds.
