Mumps Scare in Iowa

In Iowa, they have had more than 275 cases of Mumps in the past three months, making it the largest outbreak in this country in 17 years. Authorities believe the epidemic may have started with a student visiting from England, where there has been a huge outbreak for two years. So do we have a problem with Mumps in Lubbock? Turns out there was one case in 2004 but nothing since then. The Lubbock Health Department credits that to all the shot clinics around here to make sure every youngster is immunized, because when they stamp MMR on your shot record, that means your child is protected against Measles, Mumps and Rubella.
