The battle to bring strippers back to Baby Dolls is now being fought in federal court. A hearing was held at the Lubbock Federal Building on Tuesday. Baby Dolls owner Charles Westlund Junior is suing the city for denying his permit for a sexually oriented business. The city claims he lied about felony convictions on his application. Westlund's lawyers say those convictions were misdemeanors.
A second hearing has been set for Friday. Westlund was not at Tuesday's hearing. Authorities issued a warrant for Westlund's arrest Monday. He was booked into the Lubbock County Jail just before 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission claims Westlund lied on a permit application with its office.
