Fence Deadline Extended for Former Taco Bell Buildings

The owner of two, old vacant Taco Bell buildings now has until next Friday to fence their Lubbock properties. The buildings were designed by the same builder who constructed the Little Panda building. The roof of the Little Panda on 9th and Slide collapsed and killed one woman last month. Inspectors believe a combination of high winds, poor building design and maintenance are to blame.

The owner of the other two buildings must either demolish the structures, correct the design problem or hire a structural engineer to do an independent study. A fence was supposed to be up this week but inspectors extended that deadline.

Josie's restaurant at 1308 50th street also looks like an old Taco Bell building however it has been ruled safe.
