Budget for New Police Officers Approved

The Lubbock City Council is helping the Lubbock Police Department get closer to its goal of two officers for every 1,000 residents.

Thursday, council members approved a budget for twenty additional police officers. That would bring the force to 395 officers. That is just 15 officers short of the department's goal.

The city hopes to hire new officers during its next academy which starts in July.
