The City of Lubbock will be making public pools safer for your children this summer.
Thursday, council members approved placing suction covers over drains in public pools to keep people from getting stuck underwater. The changes are part of new requirements with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
A powerful pump pulled four people to the bottom of the drain at a Fort Worth Fountain park in 2004, killing them. The new measures are an effort to prevent that problem. The Lubbock Apartment Association has already implemented these changes.
