Students Recognized for Calling 911 In Little Panda Collapse

Two Lubbock Christian High School students are being recognized for their heroic efforts on the day of the Little Panda collapse.

On Wednesday, Mayor Marc McDougal recognized the students who called 911 while trapped underneath the debris on March 20th. Whitney Whitworth and Chelsi Chestnutt were eating lunch at the Little Panda when the building collapsed.

"I remember starting to see the crack and I looked at Chelsi and she asked, what's happening?" says Whitworth.

"We were sitting in the middle of the restaurant by the window and I turned and looked at the window and I saw the glass shatter" adds Chestnutt.

Tara Wilson was killed when the roof collapsed.

City Launches Investigation After Restaurant Roof Collapses
The building was constructed in 1977 and a handful of similar buildings are still occupied in Lubbock. NewsChannel 11's Kealey McIntire tells us how the city plans to make sure it doesn't happen again.
