Standoff Situation Ends In Northeast Lubbock County

Lubbock County Sheriff's deputies are looking for an armed man they thought had barricaded himself inside his northeast Lubbock County home. As a result, a tactical team stood guard outside the home for 7 hours.

It all started around 10:30 Friday morning. Lubbock County Sheriff David Gutierrez says a frantic mother called 911 after her 32-year-old son started loading a shot gun in front of her during a family argument. When authorities arrived at their home in the 9600 Block of County Road 9740, the mother came outside and authorities thought her son went back inside with the gun. The tactical team was called out to aid the situation.

Hours into the standoff, a robot was sent in to search each room for the man. Two rooms were not accessible by the robot, so a team went in to investigate. That's when authorities discovered no one was inside. Authorities believe the man escaped from the scene, while they were tending to his mother when they first arrived.

Sheriff Guiterrez called off the standoff around 5:30 in the afternoon. At this hour, authorities are still searching for the man.
