The final countdown is now underway to sign up for Medicare's new prescription drug coverage.
Hundreds waited to get their questions answered at the South Plains Association of Governments Thursday morning. Medicare brought its mobile enrollment center to Lubbock to help seniors select a plan. The deadline for those currently eligible for medicare is May 15th.
"After May 15th, they won't be able to enroll again until November 15th - December 31st of 2006, and also, there will a 1% per month surcharge additional premium, that they will have to pay if they are currently eligible and don't sign up by May 15th," Dr. James Randolph said.
Those not currently eligible for Medicare will not be penalized for signing up after May 15th.
