About 2,000 people gathered at the Civic Center Friday for the Mayor's Beans and Cornbread Luncheon.

Servers included Lubbock's own Mayor McDougal, and other mayors from surrounding communities. The lunch raised more than $46,000. The 17th Annual event is an effort to raise money for terminally ill patients cared for by the "Hospice of Lubbock."
