Teaching Healthy Living in Order to Prevent Cancer

The American Cancer Society estimates that 100 thousand men and women statewide will be diagnosed with colon cancer and 40-thousand will die in the next ten years. That's why the Lubbock Colon Cancer Prevention Task Force is promoting healthy lifestyles now.

United Market Street partnered with the task force Saturday for a colorectal cancer health fair. Dietitians, chefs and medical professionals showed Lubbockites how to create healthy dishes.

The American Cancer Society suggests increasing your diet with five or more servings of fresh fruits and vegetables to lower the cancer risk.

Dr. Davor Vugrin says, "we need to be united about and eliminate this type of cancer as a cause of illness and death in our community and we can do that only if we work together."
