Study Shows Vioxx Has Cardiovascular Risks

New research shows the drug Vioxx can cause a heart attack within the first two weeks of taking the drug.

A study in Canada found about a fourth of the patients who took Vioxx suffered a heart attack an average of nine days after starting the drug. Then, after that initial period the risk seemed to level off and disappear after treatment stopped.

The study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal studied over 100,000 patients on Vioxx before deciding that the cardiovascular risks may begin earlier than previously believed.
