Slaton High School students met with Chris Bell Wednesday. He is the Democratic candidate in the race for Texas Governor.
Bell believes standardized tests have changed the way teachers run their classrooms, and he says that needs to change.
"I believe the fact that we're basing whether kids move forward on how they rank on the outcome of one test makes no sense," Bell said.
Bell faces Republican incumbent Governor Rick Perry in the November election.
Carole Keeton Strayhorn, who was in Lubbock earlier this week, and Kinky Friedman, who will be here Friday, are in the process of collecting 45,000 signatures to make the ballot as Independent candidates.
