Damaging Winds Rip Through Anton: More Storms Expected Today

Wednesday's severe thunderstorms brought rain, hail and damaging winds. The community of Anton experienced some significant wind damage. NewsChannel 11's Suleika Acosta spent the morning surveying the aftermath.

Winds reached up to 71 miles per hour Wednesday evening causing extensive damage to several homes and businesses. Grace Pump and Feed Supply, along Highway 84, was hit hard. Wood, brick and metal debris from buildings was scattered around the business. A large piece of bent metal was draped over the roof of one building. The strong winds also caused a warehouse to collapse.

Steve Divine tells us this damage was caused by Straight Line winds, not associated with a tornado. These winds are shown to cause more damage than tornadic winds.

Destructive winds also knocked over power lines and poles causing a power outage in Anton. Excel crews tell us power was restored just after 3 a.m. Thursday.
