The fluctuation in gas prices isn't putting the breaks on travel. That was part of a travel and tourism trends luncheon hosted by Visit Lubbock and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Trends in the tourism industry overall are up, and show more families are traveling together and spending more time together. The goal is to find out what will get more people to visit Lubbock.
Berkeley Young with Randall Travel Marketing Research Firm says, "Lubbock is getting a bigger name out there everyday. Texas Tech is a big part of that. It's such a famous name out there. We have to use every opportunity to build recognition for Lubbock. You know 50 years ago nobody knew San Antonio and look what's happened there."
More than $450 million in tourism money is generated in Lubbock County each year.
