Lawmakers to Consider Funeral Protest Bill

With the special session ending Tuesday, the legislature can now consider other items on its expanded agenda.

One item on the list is a proposal to ban protest demonstrations at funerals. Senator Robert Duncan of Lubbock wrote the bill after a group from Kansas disrupted a soldier's funeral in Dimmit. If passed, the bill would make it a class B misdemeanor to protest within 500 feet of a funeral service.

The ban would be in effect one hour before to one hour after a service.
