The death of a Ralls native is making headlines in the music industry.
Billy Walker was a legend of the Grand Ole Opry. He was killed Sunday in a wreck along the Alabama interstate. He died along with his wife and two band members, when their van veered off the road and overturned. His 21-year old grandson remains in critical condition.
Walker's name can be seen on the Buddy Holly Walk of Fame in downtown Lubbock. He was born on a farm in Ralls, back in 1929, but raised in an orphanage after his mother's death. At the age of 11, he reunited with his father, who taught him to play the guitar after seeing a Gene Autry film.
At the time of his death, Walker was returning to Nashville after performing a show over the weekend. He was 77-years old.
