Nunez Family Files Wrongful Death Claim Against the City of Lubbock

The family of a man killed after being tased by Lubbock police is now taking action against the city.

Juan Nunez's family is filing a wrongful death claim against the City of Lubbock. An autopsy report showed the taser did contribute to Nunez's death, but added alcohol intoxication and blunt force trauma from a fall also played a role.

Police reports say Nunez's actions required officer Matt Doherty to use his taser and call for back-up at this home in the 4400 block of Jarvis. The family's claim calls it a needless death that resulted in extreme grief and suffering for the family. Lawyers are also asking the police department to stop using tasers.

Meanwhile, the Lubbock Police Department is conducting its own investigation and which it will turn over to the district's attorney's office. It will be up to the district attorney's office to take action from there.
