Anyone who has been involved with Lubbock ISD knows the name Roy T. Grimes. He has served the district for more than 50 years, through a number of positions, including: teacher, principal and most recently school board trustee. Now, he is stepping down.
Thursday, Lubbock City Council members acknowledged his achievements. Following the reading of a proclamation by Mayor David Miller, Grimes received a standing ovation from the audience. Grimes took the opportunity to say thank you to his biggest supporter.
"I want to thank my wife for raising four children because I was spending time with other people's children which I thought was important," Grimes said.
Some of Grimes' former students include three of the city council members.
