Woman will soon have another choice when it comes to birth control pills. The FDA has approved Barr Pharmaceutical's "Seasonique." The pill is an extended-cycle oral contraceptive, so, in this case women take a low-dose estrogen pill every day for twelve straight weeks. Then take a week off with no pill.
If you do the math, you know that means four periods a year. If this sounds familiar, Barr also manufactures Seasonale, which is already on the market. Seasonique is expected to reduce breakthrough bleeding and hormonal fluctuations.
It's expected to be available sometime in July.
