Shingles Vaccine

The FDA has approved a new vaccine to reduce the risk of older Americans developing shingles. The disease is kind of a terrible return of the chicken pox but worse much later in life, with painful blisters usually on one side of the body.

In a study of about thirty-eight thousand people, the new vaccine called Zostavax was found to cut the number of shingles cases in half.  And among those who got the vaccine but ended up with shingles anyway. Their condition was described as much less severe. So, that's very good news.
