The Lubbock Independent School District will hold its first of four commencement ceremonies Friday. Unfortunately, 34 seniors will not be able to participate because of the TAKS test.
Students who fail a portion, or all, of the test are not allowed to graduate. However, they will have an opportunity to re-take the test this summer. LISD officials say that accounts for 2% of the entire senior class. Deputy Superintendent for Secondary Schools Fred Hardin says, "Statewide, 11% of the seniors will not be able to graduate and receive their diplomas because they didn't pass all portions of the TAKS."
Frenship ISD has one senior who will not graduate because of the TAKS test. All seniors at Lubbock Cooper ISD passed the test.
