Honoring Area Soldiers Who Gave the Ultimate Sacrifice

Dedicated in 2003, the memorial is designed to honor all of those who served in the military.

The bricks list the names and dates of those who have served and their hometown.

The names of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, their lives, are listed along the granite walls in the center.

The most recent killed from the South Plains include those serving in Iraqi Operation Freedom:

Marine Private First Class and Lubbock native Ricky Morris died on march 18, 2003. The 20-year-old was killed when a humvee ran over a landmine.

Marine Private First Class Chad Bales was killed a month later in a convoy accident. The former Muleshoe resident was 20-years-old.

Army Specialist Israel Garza was killed on April 4, 2004 when his convoy was attacked. Garza lived in Lubbock. He was 25-years-old.
