Nunez Family Files Lawsuit Against The City of Lubbock

A Lubbock family, whose son died after he was tased, is taking the weapon's manufacturer and the City of Lubbock to court.

The Nunez family filed the lawsuit Monday against the City of Lubbock and Taser International, Inc.  Juan Nunez III died April 16th after he was tased at his parent's home in the 4400 block of Jarvis.  According to a police report, Doherty was responding to a domestic disturbance call and Nunez's actions required him to use his taser.

After Nunez was tased four times, he fell and hit his head. At the time, he was also intoxicated, with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.  The Lubbock Medical Examiner says those three factors combined contributed to Nunez's death. His family believes someone should be held accountable for what happened, and that's why they filed a lawsuit in Lubbock County Court.

The family's attorney Kevin Glasheen says, "It is inappropriate under national police guidelines to use a taser on an intoxicated person who is not resisting arrest and we know it's inappropriate to use it four times."

Nunez would have turned 28 years old Sunday.
