New details on the woman accused of kidnapping baby Priscilla Maldonado. NewsChannel 11 told you Monday night about a tip from the Amarillo area led to the arrest of Stephanie Lynn Anderson Jones. Tuesday, we learn Jones once lived there, or at least she claimed so on an application she filled out to rent a mobile home in north Lubbock. Jones' former address appears to be the missing link in the chain of events. Police tell NewsChannel 11 they still don't know how the tipster knew the Jones family, but that tip lead police to baby Priscilla.
A detective contacted the Jones' home at Westfork Mobile Home Park. Police asked Stephanie's husband if they recently had a baby. Lieutenant Roy Bassett from Lubbock P.D. says that Mr. Jones was not clear on details that parents of a new born should know. Then Mr. Jones apparently told police his wife would go to the station with their child so police could see that everything was okay. Stephanie Jones never showed up.
Police cross-referenced the phone number and went to the Jones' north Lubbock home. Bassett says that Stephanie and her husband were home when officers arrived. They questioned her, and Jones finally told police she had left the child somewhere.
"The information came out that she had dropped the baby off, and obviously the next question there is where did that happen? Everybody jumped into cars and said you've got to give us directions to where this baby is," Bassett said.
According to Bassett, Jones was unclear on exactly where she had dropped off baby Priscilla, but eventually she lead them to the Savoy Condos just off of 4th Street. The detective who found baby Priscilla says she was quite flush and her skin was warm to the touch. Bassett says they estimate that Priscilla was outside for 30 to 45-minutes.
NewsChannel 11 spoke to the manager at the mobile home park where Jones lived. Jones told her on Friday that she had just given birth to a baby. "She said I'm just coming out of the hospital. I delivered a baby yesterday, and I said I didn't even know you were pregnant," Westfork Mobile Home Park Manager Kaloma Clark said.
Jones lived at Westfork for about eight months. Clark says a background check on Jones found no criminal record. Clark says Jones never appeared to be pregnant. We asked Clark what will be her next step? Clark says she plans to evict the couple.
