Neighbors Express Shock Over Arrest of Suspected Kidnapper

NewsChannel 11 visited the north Lubbock mobile home park where Stephanie Jones lives. She's the woman charged with kidnapping newborn Priscilla Maldonado. A landlord tells us Jones has lived there for eight months. Police believe Jones may have been employed with Cardiologists of Lubbock. She reportedly posed as a nurse at UMC when Priscilla was born.

Alleged Kidnapper Now Charged
New details on the woman accused of kidnapping baby Particular Maldonado. NewsChannel 11's Ben Lawson has more.

Jones's neighbors tell us they did see her wearing scrubs every day. The neighbors also say they believed Stephanie Jones was just like any ordinary neighbor. We found out by talking to the neighbors that Stephanie is a Nascar fan and neighbors think that may be one of the reasons she's accused of using the name "Lisa Stewart" as an alias.

April Jones and Jeremy Sanchez got the shock of their life Monday night when the FBI came knocking on their door. They were looking for baby Priscilla.

"They asked me who I was and if I had any family out here. I said yes. My parents lives here, Jeremy told me to get inside. I asked him what was going on. I didn't know. Jeremy said the FBI was here. They came inside looked through our kids rooms closets and restrooms. We have a baby who is 11 months old," says April Jones.

April just happens to have the same last name as the suspect Stephanie Jones. She lives right next door to the woman who is now behind bars for allegedly kidnapping a four day old baby.

April says, "You see this tuff on TV  and what's going on and you're like wow. That's crazy and then it happens next door to my house. It's unreal."

April and Jeremy did not meet Stephanie but they did meet her husband one evening while barbecuing. He says they talked about Nascar. Jeremy says, "I noticed she was a Tony Stewart fan. I guess that's why she used the alias Lisa Stewart."

They even invited the couple over to their house. April says, "We invited them over. They seemed so normal. They seemed like everyday neighbors." When the news hit that police were looking for a kidnapper, they never suspected their neighbors. Then when police arrested Stephanie next door, April saw something that she couldn't believe. April says, "Police were taking pictures of her car. I was talking to a girlfriend from work when they were pulling stuff out of her trunk. They pulled out brand new baby seats still in the box."

We also spoke with the Stephanie Jones's landlord, Kaloma Clark who says she found it odd when Stephanie asked Friday to pay her rent in cash because she had just had a baby. Clark says, "She said I'm just coming out of the hospital. I delivered a baby yesterday, and I said I didn't even know you were pregnant."

Clark says a background check on Stephanie Jones found no criminal record. She adds the next step will be to evict Stephanie Jones and her husband who was also questioned by police. Right now, they tell us they do not anticipate charges against the husband and believe he was not involved in the deception.
