A new badge system could add more security to the Lubbock County Courthouse. If approved, county employees would have to wear an identification and security badge. Access to certain parts of the courthouse would be electronically programmed into their identification. Commissioners say not only will it increase security, it will also help in crisis situations.
Commissioner Ysidro Gutierrez says, "I think the biggest plus for this particular system is that it will allow us to work with Texas Tech University and the City of Lubbock and other entities in the county during a disaster."
The electronic identification in the badge would allow county workers to enter shelters and emergency command centers automatically. Commissioners will consider the idea at their next meeting on Monday.
