  • Citrus Bones

There's new evidence that your morning glass of OJ could help keep your bones strong! this one comes from Texas A&M where researchers say they prevented osteoporosis in rats by feeding them orange and grapefruit juice. Researchers think the anti-oxidants found in the citrus is key in building bone density. About ten-million men and women in the United States are affected by osteoporosis. The estimate is from the National Osteoporosis Foundation.

  • Anti-Psychotics

Doctors are writing six times as many anti-psychotic prescriptions for children and teens as they did in 1993. A study at Columbia University finds that in 2002, more than 1.2 million anti-psychotic prescriptions were written to treat things like disruptive behavior disorder, aggression and mood swings in kids under 21. That's compared to just 200,000 prescriptions like that in 1993. Another concern they say, many of the drugs were for anti-psychotics which are not approved by the FDA for use in children.

  • Dirt Bike Injuries

In 2003 the sale of off-road motorcycles doubled over what was sold in 1999. That means 300,000 dirt bikes out there. A lot of them with kids on them. A new report finds nearly 24,000 children were injured in off-road motorcycle accidents between 2001 and 2004, up 33% from 2001. Most of the injured were boys, and 40% of the injuries were serious meaning broken bones or internal injuries. ER doctors are hoping this report will encourage parents to make their kids wear helmets and talk to their kids about the potential danger that comes with operating a dirt bike.
