Welcome to Safety City. It's a kid-size town with some big time safety lessons. Next week, this min-sized Lubbock will offer a week-long camp full of safety lessons for your kids. Safety City employee Laci Loveless says, "The younger you teach the kids, the better. You know it's a lifelong lesson. They can be more aware of the cars that are around them, the best way to ride their bicycles, where to ride them and understand the safest place so they don't end up getting hit."
The kids will learn skills inside the classroom and put what they've learned to the test. If your kid has already attended a camp, directors say there will be new lessons to learn. Safety City Director Charlie Madgwick says, "The other new speakers we'll have are the Bikers Against Child Abuse. They'll bring their choppers out and the kids like it."
In addition to guest speakers, there will be field trips, arts and crafts, and swimming. Madgwick says, "This will be the 4th year, that we've had this camp. It fills up really fast. "
The camp is June 19th through the 23rd at Safety city. That's located inside Clapp Park at 46th and Avenue U. Ages 6 through 12 are welcome. The cost is $50. To register, call (806) 767-2712. You'll want to hurry. For more information on the camp and Safety City, (click here).
