Two Students Cleared in Financial Aid Scam

A  Lubbock federal judge cleared two former Texas Tech students of charges in a financial aid scam.

Jacob Lustgarten and Amanda Sheils were accused of giving their names and social security numbers to another student who used them to falsify applications for federal grant money. The scam defrauded the government of more than $200,000.  After three days of trial, a jury acquitted the two Thursday afternoon.

Jessica Back, the third student who was named in the same indictment as Lustgarten and Shiels, pleaded guilty earlier this month.
